Graduate Opportunities and career changes

Rural generalist training pathways are available across most disciplines for new graduates, or for practitioners pursuing professional development or career progression opportunities.

Allied health professionals can access the Rural Generalist pathway independently or through Queensland Health. Postgraduate programs include the JCU Allied Health Rural Generalist Program.

JCU Nursing and Midwifery is a leader in regional, rural and tropical healthcare sciences. A vibrant learning culture fosters compassionate and highly skilled graduates. Nursing graduates can enrol in a suite of postgraduate programs.

Medical Interns can access GP training through Generalist Practice Training.

Generalist Practice Training (GPT)

Working as a Registrar in rural and remote Queensland will provide you with medical knowledge and experiences unlike any other training location. 

Enjoy working in training posts where your patient caseload varies from Indigenous Health, Travel Medicine, Occupational Medicals for surrounding mines, Sexual Health, Minor Surgery, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Mental Health while being welcomed into a close-knit rural community.

Hospitals are established in Mount Isa and Cloncurry with visiting health services from the Mount Isa Hospital to Cloncurry regularly. Learn more about North West Queensland

Central West Queensland 

Central West Queensland includes towns such as Longreach, Barcaldine, Winton and Blackall. Hospitals are established in Longreach with visiting health services from the Mount Isa Hospital regularly.

Travelling to Longreach in the Central West can be done through direct flights to Mount Isa, Townsville and Brisbane as well as sealed highways throughout Central Queensland. Learn more about Central West Queensland
