Community Engagement

The Centre for Rural and Remote Health encourages students to engage with local organizations and participate in community events and activities to both enrich their placement experiences and expose them to the benefits of life in rural and remote areas. 

We are proud to partner with local clubs and associations, regional councils, local governments, Indigenous health services, private health organizations, and Queensland Health, who provide additional social and financial support to students on rural placements.

Previous events and activities that students have participated in include:

• NAIDOC celebration activities
• Camp Drafts and Rodeos
• Mount Isa, Cloncurry, and Longreach Show
• Careers Day at local schools
• Mount Isa Health Expo
• JCU Open Day
• PCYC Chillin’ in the Park program – please visit the PCYC website and complete the volunteer form prior to volunteering. Students who volunteer for the PCYC are eligible for free gym membership.

Students can also get involved by attending local events, including race days, charity galas and balls, concerts, rodeos, campdraft and weekly trivia nights. The Centre provides camping equipment and bicycles to students to explore the local region and camping.
