Community Engagement

The Centre for Rural and Remote Health encourage students to engage with local organisations and participate in community events and activities to enrich their placement experiences and expose them to the benefits of life in rural and remote areas.

We are proud to partner with local clubs and associations; regional councils; local government; Indigenous health services; private health organisations and Queensland Health who provide additional social and financial support to students on rural placement.

Previous events and activities students have participated in:-

  • NAIDOC celebration activities and march;
  • Mount Isa Rodeo parade;
  • Mount Isa Rodeo;
  • Mount Isa Campdraft;
  • Cloncurry Campdraft;
  • Mount Isa Show;
  • Cloncurry Show;

  • Mount Isa Health Expo
  • JCU Open Day Mount Isa;
  • PCYC Chillin’ in the Park program – please go to the PCYC website and complete the volunteer form prior to volunteering. Students who volunteer for the PCYC are eligible for free gym membership.

Students can also get involved by attending local events including race days, charity galas and balls, concerts and weekly trivia nights. Head over to the Upcoming Events page to find out more.

See us out and about in the communities where we live, work, learn and play.
